7 Ways to Eat & Drink Turmeric

If you've been following the wacky and wonderful world of wellness bloggers and Instagrammers - or even if you've been to Starbucks recently - you've probably noticed that turmeric is suddenly all over the place. Long a staple of Indian curries and foods like mustard (if it provides that golden yellow color!), The Spice Staple has gone from languishing at the back of the counter to a pretty seat right in front of it.

Maybe you've been curious and have read about recent studies pointing to its health and disease-preventing properties? Perhaps you are interested in including it in your diet, but not sure how to do it? As it turns ready, there are several ways to eat and drink this spice.

1. Add to scrambled eggs and frittats.

Add a dash of turmeric to scrambled eggs, frittata, or tofu omelet. If you or your family are new to turmeric, this is a inordinate dwelling to jump because its color is familiar and the taste is subtle.

2. Mix with grilled vegetables.

The slightly warm and spicy flavor of turmeric goes especially well with cauliflower, potatoes and root vegetables.

3. Add it to the rice.

A pinch of turmeric lends color and a mellow flavor to a simple rice cooker or more sophisticated pilaf.

4. Try with vegetables.

Sprinkle turmeric on sauteed or steamed vegetables such as kale, collard greens, and kale.

5. Use it in soups.

A bowl of vegetable or chicken soup is made even warmer when tinted with golden turmeric.

6. Mix it with a smoothie.

While renewed turmeric root is especially great in juices and posers, a pinch of ground spices are good too. The slightly spicy flavor tends to mask well in smoothies.

7. Make tea.

Boil turmeric with coconut milk and honey for an earthy and soothing drink. also known as the popular and widespread Golden Milk.

Another tip: if you want to experience the health benefits of turmeric, pair it with pepper. Herbalist Rosalie de la Foret tells us, “To make the most of the turmeric, add 3% black pepper to the mixture. Black pepper improves the bioavailability of turmeric, making smaller doses more effective. ” This equates to about 1/2 teaspoon of ground pepper and 1/4 cup of turmeric. To make things easier, simply mix the peppers in a jar with turmeric.
